Rival Drafts: bot's ready, server's gone
An update on the Rival Drafts bot. The code is done. The server isn't mine anymore.
Quick update on the Rival Drafts bot.
Where it stands
The bot is ready. Drafting flow, captain logic, role/team checks, post-game stats — all in. I tested it across full PUG nights and it held up. From a software standpoint it’s done.
What changed
After some unfortunate disputes, I’m no longer working with the server it was built for. That’s the short version, and I don’t think rehashing the long version would do anyone any good. People disagreed, things broke down, I stepped away.
So the bot exists, but the place it was meant to live in doesn’t include me anymore.
Lesson learned
This is on me: I didn’t get the legal/ownership stuff in writing before putting in the work. When you’re building something inside someone else’s community, “we’ll figure it out later” is not a plan. Get it in writing or expect to walk away with nothing.
Filing that one under expensive lessons. Won’t happen again.
What I want for them
Genuinely — good luck to whatever they decide to do next. I’m rooting for them. There’s a real community there and I want it to thrive, with or without my code in it.
What’s next for the bot
Right now the bot is finished but homeless. I’ll either:
- Find another community that needs a Marvel Rivals draft tool, or
- Open-source it so anyone can spin it up, or
- Repurpose the draft engine for something else entirely.
If you run a Rivals community and you’d actually use this, reach out.
